Dental Bridges: The Perfect Solution for Missing Teeth

Are you missing one or more teeth, and feeling self-conscious about your smile? Dental bridges may be the solution you’ve been looking for! At Smile Designer, we offer a variety of dental bridge options to fit your specific needs and preferences.

What is a dental bridge?

A bridge is a custom-made prosthetic device that fills the gap created by missing teeth. It consists of one or more artificial teeth, called pontics, that are anchored in place by dental crowns that are placed on the teeth adjacent to the gap. Dental bridges can restore your smile, improve your ability to chew and speak, and maintain the shape of your face.

Types of dental bridges

At Smile Designer, we offer three main types of dental bridges: traditional bridges, cantilever bridges, and Maryland bridges. Traditional bridges are the most common and are typically made of porcelain fused to metal (and made of Zirconia as well). Cantilever bridges are used when there’s only one adjacent tooth to place the crown on, and Maryland bridges are ideal for front teeth since they use a metal or porcelain framework that’s bonded to the back of the adjacent teeth.

What happens during a dental bridge procedure?

Before the procedure, your dentist will numb the area to be worked on and prepare the teeth adjacent to the gap by filing them down. Impressions of the teeth will then be taken to create an accurate model for the bridge. Temporary crowns and bridges are placed on the prepared teeth while the permanent bridge is being fabricated. When the permanent bridge is ready, it’s placed and adjusted to ensure proper fit and function.

Pros and Cons of Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are a great solution for missing teeth, but it’s important to consider the pros and cons before making a decision.
The Pros of a dental bridge include improved appearance, better chewing and speech, and maintaining facial shape.
The Cons of a dental bridge include the need to file down healthy teeth, potential for decay and gum disease, and the occasional need for replacement or repair. A dental bridge can only replace up to 4 consecutive missing teeth.

How Long Does a Dental Bridge Last?

With proper care and maintenance, dental bridges can last up to 15 years or even longer. It’s important to practice good oral hygiene, avoid hard and sticky foods, and visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings.

How do I care for my dental bridge?

Caring for your dental bridge is similar to caring for your natural teeth. Brush and floss regularly and avoid eating hard or sticky foods. Use a special floss threader to clean under the bridge and consider using a Waterpik to help remove food particles.
In summary, dental bridges are a great solution for missing teeth, and Smile Designer has the expertise to help you determine which type of bridge is best for you. With proper care and maintenance, your dental bridge can last for many years, restoring your smile and confidence.
